Introduction
Microarrays allow the simultaneous measurement of expression levels of
thousands of genes in cells or tissues under different physiological or
disease states. Scientists at the OMRF Microarray Research Facility
collaborate with researchers here and around the world to study
differential gene expression in order to understand pathophysiologic
states at the molecular levels.
The OMRF Microarray Research Facility currently offers two commercial
micorarray platforms for genome wide expression studies:
Affymetrix GeneChip®
microarrays
Illumina Sentrix® Expression
BeadChip microarrays
We also have the equipment and
experience to manufacture microarrays in-house from custom
libraries.

Microarray Core Services
Users are encouraged to contact the staff at the OMRF Microarray
Research Facility to discuss details of experimental design prior to
isolating RNA for microarray experiments. RNA is prepared by each
investigoator and delivered to the OMRF Microarray Facility. RNA
quantity and quality are then assessed by our staff prior to labeling,
hybridization and data collection. Commercial and in-house microarray
platforms are available. Affymetrix gene expression microarrays are
available for a large number of species. (Click
here
to review Affymetrix products.) Illumina gene expression arrays offer a
high quality, cost effective alternative to investigators for studying
gene expression in humans and mouse or rat models. The Facility produces
human, mouse, Candida albicans, and zebrafish microarrays, plus custom
cDNA microarrays containing genes from libraries produced by individual
investigators. Protein arrays are currently under evaluation and may be
available in the future.
