OKLAHOMA CITY,
October 24, 2005—For the 50th straight year, the Oklahoma Association
of Mothers' Clubs had made gifts to support medical research at the Oklahoma
Medical Research Foundation. With these donations, the states' Mothers
Clubs have now given over $100,000 to OMRF.
Comprised of chapters from Canton, Edmond,
Fairland, Fairview, Hennessey, Ponca City, Medford, Okeene and Purcell, the
Oklahoma Association of Mothers' Clubs has made annual gifts to OMRF since
1956. Over the past half-century, those donations have gone to support a
wide range of scientific needs, from cancer research to laboratory supplies
to summer scholarships for state high-school and college students in OMRF's
Fleming Scholars program.
"Almost since the day OMRF was born,
Oklahoma's Mothers' clubs have been devoted to helping our scientists battle
human disease like cancer and Alzheimer's," said OMRF Director of
Development Tim Yaciuk. "The tireless support of these dedicated Oklahomans
and many others like them makes everything we do at OMRF possible."
Founded in 1940 as a "force for child
betterment in Oklahoma," the Oklahoma Association of Mothers' Clubs counts
13 chapters and almost 200 members statewide. Cheryl Hasty of Fairview
currently serves as the organization's president.
