OKLAHOMA
CITY, November 21, 2005—The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation is now accepting
applications for its 2006 Sir Alexander Fleming summer scholarship program.
The eight-week science program lets students develop their
research skills by working alongside world-class researchers in OMRF's laboratories. The
application deadline is February 15.
"The Fleming program gives Oklahoma students a one-of-a-kind
chance to explore the world of medical research," said OMRF President J. Donald Capra,
M.D. "It can—and has—served as a rich learning experience and a career
springboard for hundreds of our state's brightest young minds."
High
school juniors and seniors, as well as college freshmen, sophomores and juniors, are eligible
to apply for Fleming scholarships. The scholarships provide housing for the eight-week program,
if needed, as well as a $2,500 stipend.
Students must be Oklahoma residents at the time of high school
graduation to qualify. For additional information and application forms, please visit
www.OMRF.org/fleming.
Named in honor
of Sir Alexander Fleming, the program celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. More than 100
Fleming Scholars have gone on to become successful researchers and physicians, including three
current OMRF scientists: Rodger McEver, M.D., Judith James, M.D., Ph.D., and Andrea Sestak, M.D., Ph.D.
